Showroom Retail Assistant

Radio Parts is within walking distance from Southern Cross and North Melbourne stations. Parking is available on-site.

We are looking for a full-time retail assistant for a sales position in our West Melbourne showroom.

We have been in the consumer electronics industry for over 80 years and have an established reputation and a loyal customer base. We pride ourselves in our knowledge and level of customer care.

We would welcome any applicant that can demonstrate great work ethic and attitude. The ideal candidate would have prior retail experience, preferably in a fast-paced busy environment. A general interest in consumer electronics and technology is a bonus.

The successful applicant will have up to 3 months working in our warehouse (housed in the same building) to prove themselves, while also becoming familiar with the product range and inventory systems. If you successfully gain the necessary experience, you will then progress to the showroom sales position for a hands-on experience. From there, you may wish to move to a phone sales position, dealing with major accounts and phone sales inquiries - no 'cold calling' is required.

This is a full-time Monday to Friday position, 40 hours per week with one Rostered Day Off (RDO) per month.

For the showroom sales position, there is also an option for working on Saturdays (if rostered) at 1.5 times pay.


Starting salary package is $42.5K base, plus 9.5% super.
Following a successful 3 month probationary period, if you are moved to the showroom floor, your salary increases to $45K base + 9.5% super + commissions.

Showroom sales staff will achieve commission most months with the amount varying between $100 to around $1,000 per month.

During the probationary period, performance will be monitored on a regular basis. A police check is a requirement if the position is offered.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with the ability to learn quickly, a tough work ethic, a positive attitude and an ability to establish a good rapport with customers and workers with the following skills:

  • 2 + years' retail experience in a busy environment, ideally retail
  • Must be able to perform all retail floor functions including standing for extended periods, climbing ladders, stocking and retrieving merchandise
  • Able to communicate clearly (written and verbal) with employees and customers
  • Strong selling techniques and experience delivering high-level customer service
  • Can maintain merchandising standards to maximise sales
  • Is a team player and leads by example
  • Can manage a high traffic of customers
