Ideal for long cable runs, or car audio installations where Ground Loop hums are an issue. Ground loops occur when2 or more pieces of equipment connect to "grounds"that have different voltage potentials (instead of a common voltage potential "ground" would suggest). If two pieces of audio equipment are plugged into different power outlets (say in the case where a subwoofer is connected somedistance from the AV system), there will often be a difference in their respective ground potentials creating the 50Hz mains hum we all hate.
